The olives were very slow to ripen in 2017. We started harvesting in April, and didn't finish until late June. Even then, we left a lot of olives on the trees, as we were rather tired of the whole process, at that stage!
The oils are slightly different this year. Perhaps a bit less pungent, and with slightly more bitterness than in earlier years. SO, this years out Frantoio oil tends a bit more towards the delicate style, while the Picual and Estate Blend are medium to robust styles.
Regardless, we managed to win gold medals for our Picual (again), and our Frantoio (again). We also won silver medals for our Estate Blend, which, this year, is a blend of Frantoio, Leccino, and Barnea.
The harvest was our biggest yet, and we have a lot more oil to sell than in previous years.
Overall, we are very happy with the 2017 harvest. The products are very high quality, and, most importantly, they are awesomely tasty!
