Maluka Estate, in its debut appearance at the Melbourne Fine Food Awards, won the trophy for best boutique oil, and was awarded multiple Gold and Silver medals for all four of its entrants. The Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards, conducted by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV), is Australia's premium fine food event, rewarding and recognising excellence.
Maluka Estate was also nominated in the final five, for 2015 Victorian fine food product of the year.
Michael Coates and Anne Mutimer, purchased the property, in 2013, after selling their acoustic technology business of 35 years, in 2012. They then set out to apply their engineering and business skills to horticulture, and the production of high grade olive oil. The Maluka Estate label was launched in 2015, after the new season harvest.
Only two years later, the trees have responded to the unpaid labour of family and friends, applications of organic fertiliser, and serious surgery, with a four-fold increase in production of superior quality olive fruit. The fruit is cold pressed in small batches for premium quality.

- Maluka Estate Family Reserve – Gold medal, Robust style, small volume (<5,000 litres).
- Maluka Estate Leccino – Gold, Micro volume oil (<200 litres).
- Maluka Estate Picual – Silver medal, single estate oil.
- Maluka Estate Frantoio – Silver medal, single estate oil.
The Champion trophy winners for the Royal Melbourne Fine Food Award Spring categories were announced at an exclusive event In the Master Chef Kitchen at the Royal Melbourne Show-grounds, on Thursday 3 September. Full results are available on the RASV website at rasv.com.au.
The spring categories were judged over the month of July, with awards given to Australian producers entered in categories including Branded Beef, Branded Lamb, Bread and Baked Goods, Dairy, Delicatessen, Free Range Eggs, Preserves, Ice-Cream, Gelato and Sorbet, Sheep, Goat Buffalo, and of course Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Visitors to the 2015 Royal Melbourne Show, held from Saturday, 19 September to Tuesday, 29 September 20 will have the chance to experience award-winning produce from the Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards, in the Winning Tastes Pavilion.
